I have a niche. I think a lot of LEGO builders do. Sure we like to expand our array of techniques, push our boundaries, and build outside of our comfort zone. We like to experiment with different concepts, themes, and scales. But at the end of the day, a lot of us have that comfort food type of build we like to return to; that one thing that we fall back on; that one thing that we do the best, or at least have the most fun doing. For me, that’s building 6-stud-wide Speed Champions cars, and specifically muscle and sports classics. That’s so specific, right? It might at first thought feel as if there isn’t a ton of water to draw from this well. When I began working in the 6-wide scale once I made two or three cars, I thought I might have figured out the formula for this...
As a fan of classic Disney - and one who loves Sorcerer Mickey - 21352 Magic of Disney should be a shoo-in of a set for me. But, I have to admit: the set isn’t knocking it out of the park at first glance for me. But when you consider certain stand-out elements, the price point, and incredible value given how much is included in the set, are these aspects enough to change my initial impression of the Magic of Disney? One of the stand-out features of the set is the minifigure selection. I can see the figures being a major selling point for this set amongst minifigure and Disney fans alike. I absolutely love that LEGO included some secondary characters that are much beloved by fans that complement previously released minifigures. Lilo, for example, complements either version of Stitch that was previously released. We also now have Gepetto to pair...
Today’s guest article comes from Kimberly Giffen from around the Seattle area. She is an AFOL, STEM instructor, mom and multiple Best-in-Show winner at BrickCon who wanted to build something a bit far out… What is Classic Space? Many LEGO fans feel nostalgia for little minifigs in white, yellow, blue, black, and red space suits. However, this wasn’t the case for girls in the 80s. I was an unusual girl: I had a much-loved castle and Metroliner among the few Paradisa sets I owned. I didn’t have any Classic Space until a friend gave me a bulk lot in 2023. Despite being a fan of science fiction, it didn’t translate into my LEGO creations. Source: Brickset I discovered the adult world of LEGO only six years ago. I was a mom who would sit and build with her kids, but the kids would often get bored and leave me to build...
The 2024 installment of LEGO’s Winter Village lineup is here, and it’s a beauty! 10399 Santa’s Post Office comes floating into view with a standout hot air balloon for delivering letters. I began learning what it's like to be a contestant on LEGO Masters and beyond when I interviewed Jason and Rachel DeVries who competed on LEGO Masters New Zealand. However, LEGO Masters is not exclusive to one region. In fact, the competition is held in many different countries. Part of my goal in figuring out what life as a LEGO Master is like is learning the differences between the shows, be it LEGO Masters Australia or LEGO Masters UK. l-r: mel brown & jermaine gardner, source - legomasters In this installment of Life After LEGO Masters, I had the opportunity to speak with Mel Brown, a contestant on season 1 of LEGO Masters USA (2020), and winner of LEGO Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular in 2022. Mel is a former police officer, a father, grandfather and current president of Maryland’s Charm City Lug. Mel continues to be a public figure in the...
