The arrival of the tiny Classic LEGO Space microfigure in the recent 5005358 Minifigure Factory set was bound to prompt a batch of teeny-tiny space creations. Andreas Lenander‘s microscale space truck is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to see — impressively detailed and greeble-covered for the scale, spot-on in its colour scheme, and super-cute to boot. The rocky “tan-scaping” around the build creates a nice alien landscape feel (and the figures are well positioned to conceal those unsightly bases behind the boulders). And is there a little hint of Optimus Prime in the truck’s “face”? I think there is, and it makes me like this even more. LEGO has unveiled a new set based on Marvel’s upcoming film Ant-Man and The Wasp named 76109 Quantum Realm Explorers. The set contains 200 pieces, three minifigures, and will be available for purchase June 1 for $19.99 USD. The set features the titular heroes and presumably the villain of the film as well as a Quantum Vehicle. The scene from the film that the set is based on can be seen in the recently released trailer. The set comes with three minifigures (or should we say full-scale figures in this case!?) including Ant-Man, The Wasp and Ghost. Ant-Man has only appeared in two sets so far including 76039 Ant-Man Final Battle based on the hero’s first solo movie, and 76051 Super Hero Airport Battle based on Captain America: Civil War (including an Ant-Man constructible big-fig and a nano-fig). The Quantum Vehicle features a bug-eye-shaped cockpit, adjustable arms, a few stud shooters, and...
LEGO builder Jarek is pretty much the undisputed king of Star Wars ships, routinely making the most accurate and gorgeously intricate vehicles from a galaxy far, far away ever to be built of bricks. He’s been on a roll lately with the Imperial Navy, starting with a TIE Fighter and TIE Interceptor, then upgrading to the heavy TIE Bomber. But now Jarek’s moved up the chain even further, to Darth Vader’s personal spacecraft, the prototype TIE Advanced. Jarek again uses the incredible cockpit shaping he developed for the classic TIE Fighter model that uses 3×3 quarter dome elements to give the cockpit the truly spherical shape that’s missing from most LEGO TIE models (including official sets like the recent 75211 Imperial TIE Fighter. Among the incredible details Jarek’s managed to pack in are the access bays on the front of each wing pylon to the forward deflector shield arrays. In back,...
The new LEGO Juniors The Incredibles 2 sets have been available for a few weeks now but per our agreement with LEGO, we start our review of the sets starting today with Elastigirl’s Rooftop Pursuit (10759). The set contains 95 pieces and retails for $19.99 which is the standard price point for the Juniors sets. The contents of the box include two numbered bags, some loose Quick Start molds, and the instructions. Minifigures There are two minifigures in this particular set, Elastigirl and Screenslaver. Elastigirl, aka Helen Parr, aka Mrs. Incredible, has on the red Incredibles outfit that is similar to Mr. Incredible from the Disney Collectible Minifigures line but with printing for her body type. There is some black for the tights, boots, and gloves. She does have a double-sided head with smirk on one side and a smile on the other. The brown hair piece that Elastigirl uses is...
A few days ago, I reported that The Toys That Made Us will be returning to Netflix on May 25 which includes episodes covering Transformers, LEGO, Hello Kitty, and Star Trek. There is now a promo clip of the LEGO episode coming out of Nerdist which features a little bit about the LEGO Space and Castle sets. In the clip, we also see Adam Reed Tucker, David Robertson, and fellow San Diegan Bruno Todd talk about the sets as well. It looks to be a pretty exciting episode and I can’t wait to watch it.
